Two ways to hold a sheet: a hand pump and a motor

A suction cup lifter holds a sheet because the air under the pad is pumped out and the air outside presses the pad onto the surface. The Bluebow manual lifters are 8 inch cups with a built-in pressure gauge and a top valve you press to expel the air, sold as a pair rated at 880 lb together, 440 lb each on a clean, smooth, non-porous surface. The 10 inch electric lifter pumps itself: one press draws the vacuum, a digital display shows the pressure, and when the hold drops below 573 lb the pump refills it to the rated 662 lb. It comes with four 3.0 Ah batteries in a case.

The ratings are figures for glass, glazed tile, polished stone and sheet metal. Textured, porous or dusty surfaces leak, and the UK safety regulator's guidance on vacuum lifting says plainly that porous materials and loose material impair the hold and have dropped loads. The same guidance says the load at which a cup fails should be at least twice its safe working load, and that pads should be inspected at the start of every shift. Weigh the sheet, keep well under the rating, and lift with two cups when you can.

What a lifter will and will not hold
SurfaceHoldWhy
Glass, mirror, windshieldYesSmooth and non-porous: the pad seals
Glazed tile, polished granite, marbleYesSmooth and sealed
Honed or textured stone, concreteNoAir leaks through the pores and the texture
Painted sheet metal, laminateYes, clean and dryDust and water under the pad break the seal

From the maker's surface notes for each lifter and the vacuum lifting guidance we read. The rating is the rated load on a clean, smooth surface, not a promise for your sheet.

Questions

About Bluebow suction cup lifters

How much will a Bluebow suction cup lift for you?

The 8 inch manual cups are rated 440 lb each and 880 lb as a pair; the 10 inch electric cup is rated 662 lb and refills its vacuum below 573. The ratings are for clean, smooth, non-porous surfaces, and the lifter guide says what to check before a lift.

Will a Bluebow suction cup hold on textured stone or raw wood?

No. Air leaks under the pad through the texture and the pores, and the gauge or the screen will show the vacuum draining. Glass, glazed tile, polished stone and sheet metal hold; honed, textured, dusty or wet surfaces do not.

Will you need a charger for the Bluebow electric suction cup?

It ships with four 3.0 Ah removable batteries, each charging in one and a half to two hours, and a storage box. Swap a spent cell for a full one and keep setting tile.

Why does your Bluebow manual lifter have a gauge?

So you can see the vacuum before you lift and watch it while you carry. A needle that drifts is a leak under the pad; set the sheet down and reseat the cup.
